RECOMMENDED ACTION:
After consideration and investigation, it is the City’s claim administrator’s recommendation that the claim be accepted.
BACKGROUND:
Mike Cady submitted a claim to the City of Ripon on December 13, 2021 for damage by a City garbage truck to the bumper, tailgate, light and side panel of his truck when it was parked on Grange Way. He is also seeking money for loss of work, rental car, and inconvenience.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The City’s claim administrator, Doug Redifer, reviewed the claim submitted along with photos and the City’s internal accident report and found the liability is adverse to the City. Accordingly, it is Mr. Redifer’s recommendation that this claim be accepted for lost wages, replacement of the tire, repair of the vehicle and rental of vehicle during the time of repair. Since the amount of the claim is unknown until all of the repairs have been completed and the duration of the rental car is known, staff is requesting the City Council accept this claim in the amount not to exceed $15,000. The City’s claims administrator will work with the claimant to review all expenses related to the repair and approve within this authority.
