Subject: Equipment Replacement - Computer Servers and Storage RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the purchase of computer servers, backup storage, and associated hardware to bring computer network for the Police Department up to industry standards at a cost not to exceed amount of $57,758.07 (funding source: General Department Capital Fund).
BACKGROUND:
In October of this year the City of Ripon conducted a survey of our computer network by inhouse staff, which included an inventory of department servers, backup storage, and their available space to hold data. During this evaluation our computer network was found to be lacking in several key areas in data storage and backup capabilities. Without the recommended upgrades the department will lack the capacity to store increasing amounts of electronic information/data and the ability to retrieve that information/data should a catastrophic incident occur.
After completion of the survey an itemized list of needed equipment to bring the department up to industry standards was prepared by department staff. The itemized list is attached in two separate documents to this staff report. Outside of purchasing the needed equipment from a vendor, all other work will be conducted by department staff.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The General Fund budget for Fiscal Year 2021-22 does not include these costs for the replacement and upgrades that are being recommended. The fiscal impact of the upgrades and replacement of the computer network would not exceed $57,758.07.
