City Council
259 N. Wilma Avenue
Ripon, CA 95366
MEMO
To: Honorable City Council
From: Ed Ormonde, Chief of Police
Date: 04/12/2022
Subject: Training Donation
RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Accept the donation of $2,085.87 from Rick and Valerie Van for the Ripon Police Department staff to attend wellness training from Dr. Gilmartin.

BACKGROUND:

Due to the nature of police work, law enforcement personnel are at significant risk of wellness issues such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Dr. Gilmartin, an expert in law enforcement and public safety related behavioral health issues, provides training to help police department staff to learn and apply practical and preventative strategies to cope with the daily challenges of policing.

Rick and Valerie Van Unen have made monetary donations to the police department for Dr.

Gilmartin to travel to Ripon and provide wellness training to the City of Ripon police department staff.

This training will not impact the department’s patrol or dispatch coverage, as the department will ensure patrol staffing is maintained during the training.

FISCAL IMPACT: The cost to the City’s General Fund did not exceed $7,200 for the amount of overtime for staff to attend or cover shifts.
