Subject: Tennis Courts MOU
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
If the City Council is interested in considering a donation from the Love-Love Ripon Tennis Foundation, staff is recommending that the City Council direct staff to draft a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Ripon and the Foundation that defines the responsibilities between the City and the Foundation to complete a tennis complex at the Mistlin Sports Park.
BACKGROUND:
Love-Love Ripon Tennis Foundation (“Foundation”) has submitted an application (see attached) to donate a tennis complex at Mistlin Sports Park. The application proposes to phase the construction of the project as summarized below:
Phase 1 6 tennis courts
Phase 2 6 tennis courts
Phase 3 Center court and clubhouse
The Foundation has requested the following from the City of Ripon in consideration of the donation:
Allocate/match $400,000 in funds for the construction of six (6) new tennis courts1 Maintain the tennis courts
Encourage the development of tennis and USTA tournaments Support the future development of six (6) additional tennis courts and possibly a center court and clubhouse
1 Staff met with Di Quaresma after the donation application was submitted and was notified the Foundation has rescinded this request.
DISCUSSION:
The City of Ripon has been planning for the development of a tennis complex at the Mistlin Sports Park. Currently, this project is listed to move forward over the next 20 years, largely because of the need to construct additional parking and internal roads to provide better circulation through the Mistlin Sports Park, prior to the development of the tennis complex.
If the City Council is interested in accepting a donation from the Foundation to deliver the tennis complex much sooner, staff is recommending the City Council direct staff to prepare a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Ripon and the Foundation that defines the responsibilities between the City and the Foundation to complete a tennis complex at the Mistlin Sports Park.
