Subject: Second Amendment to Vaughan Construction Maintenance Repair Contract
RECOMMENDATION
Approve and authorize the Mayor to sign the Second Amendment to the Sidewalk Maintenance Repair Contract with Vaughan Construction for continued removal and repair of sidewalk trip hazards in the not to exceed amount of $50,000 (funding source: Street and Road Operating Fund).
BACKGROUND
In an effort to help reduce sidewalk trip hazards, the City Council approved a contract with Vaughn Construction on July 9, 2019 to remove and replace sidewalk where trip hazards exist in an amount not to exceed $50,000. Residents who are notified of a sidewalk trip hazard they are responsible to repair may also use Vaughn Construction and take advantage of the City rate, if they chose, and reimburse the City for that expense.
At the October 13, 2020 City Council meeting, Council approved and authorized the Mayor to sign the First Amendment to the Sidewalk Maintenance Repair Contract for continued removal and repair of sidewalk trip hazards with a not-to-exceed amount of $50,000.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
Vaughan Construction has repaired several trip hazards at a total of 70 locations throughout Ripon. As of December 31, 2022, there is $1,223 left in their contract. Additionally, there are 14 reported trip hazards yet to be repaired, with a total cost of $23,630.50. City staff is requesting an increase to Vaughan Construction’s Contract in an amount of $50,000.
FISCAL IMPACT
The attached second amendment to the Sidewalk Maintenance Repair Contract with Vaughan Construction has a not-to exceed amount of $50,000, which will be paid for through the Street and Road fund. If private parties responsible for repairs elect to use the City hired Contractor, they will reimburse the City for work performed.
