Subject: Leadership Training
RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Approve and authorize staff to move forward with the Leadership 201 course with GR Martin Learning and Development Solutions in the not to exceed amount of $22,230 for up to ten (10) City employees.

BACKGROUND:

The City has experienced the positive benefits of promoting employees within the organization to supervisor and department head positions. In addition to employees gaining the skills and knowledge that is required to move into positions of increased responsibility, it is important they also have leadership skills.

DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:

A professor from the University of the Pacific is offering local municipalities a leadership course. This course will cover basic concepts of leadership along with more advanced concepts that will shape participant’s own leadership style. The course will also include class exercises, discussions, and reflective exercises that participants can apply to their respective situations, now and in the future as they move into roles with increased responsibility. Attached is a description of the modules that will be covered as part of this course.

The course will be four 6-hour sessions that will be held in the City of Ripon and offered to all full-time employees. Any employee interested will be asked to submit a request to their department head. I will meet with all the department heads to determine the attendees, which will be limited to 10 individuals for the first leadership course.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The cost of the Leadership 201 course is $22,230 and will be funded from the COVID-19 relief funds.
