Subject: Johnson Sign Systems
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the purchase of two (2) Electronic Message Center signs from Johnson Sign Systems in the not to exceed amount of $44,172 (funding source: General Department Capital Fund).
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
At the May 9th City Council meeting a workshop was held where a representative from Watchfire Signs and Johnson Sign Systems provided visual displays of different Electronic Signs for the City Council to view. At the workshop, staff did receive direction from the City Council regarding which quality (Pixel Matrix) the City Council desired for an electronic message center sign in front of City Hall.
The Electronic Message sign is proposed to be located in front of City Hall along Wilma Avenue, where the current Police Station monument sign exists. The existing Police Station monument sign will be removed and the new sign will be located in the same vicinity.
The proposed Electronic Message sign will be perpendicular to Wilma Avenue and will be double sided so it can be viewed in both traffic directions from Wilma Avenue. The size of the units will be 3 feet tall by 6 feet long.
The likely uses of the sign will be for community announcements, community events, etc. Staff anticipates developing a usage policy to be approved by the City Council prior to installation and initialization of the sign.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The entire cost to purchase the two (2) Electronic Message Center signs from Johnson Sign Systems ($47,172) will be covered by the City’s General Department Capital Fund.
