Subject: Grand Jury Response - Draft
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Discuss response to Grand Jury Case No. 0322 for Superior Court of California, County of San Joaquin regarding, “School Safety: A Shared Responsibility” and provide direction to staff.
This response must be returned to the Grand Jury before August 24, 2023.
BACKGROUND
The 2022-23 San Joaquin County Grand Jury has published Case No. 0322, “School Safety: A Shared Responsibility” (see attached). In the published case the Grand Jury has made Findings and Recommendations to each entity surveyed within the county. The City of Ripon’s suggested responses are here to be reviewed and discussed prior to formal submittal.
DISCUSSION/RESPONSE
The San Joaquin County Civil Grand Jury report requires a response from the Ripon City Council on the report’s recommendations within 90 days of receipt of the report. The report was received on May 26, 2023. Staff has prepared a draft letter to the Grand Jury (see attached file “DRAFT City Council Response to Grand Jury”) responding to each recommendation that is applicable to the City of Ripon.
Staff is requesting input from the City Council on the draft response to the Grand Jury.
Following the discussion at the July City Council meeting, staff will finalize the letter and bring back for City Council approval at the August City Council meeting.
