RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Mayor to sign the letter of response to the findings and recommendations of the Grand Jury Case No. 0322 for Superior Court of California, County of San Joaquin regarding, “School Safety: A Shared Responsibility”.
BACKGROUND
The 2022-23 San Joaquin County Grand Jury has published Case No. 0322, “School Safety: A Shared Responsibility” (see attached). In the published case the Grand Jury has made Findings and Recommendations to each entity surveyed within the county.
DISCUSSION/RESPONSE
The San Joaquin County Civil Grand Jury report requires a response from the Ripon City Council on the report’s recommendations within 90 days of receipt of the report. The report was received on May 26, 2023.
At the July City Council meeting, staff presented a draft of a letter for City Council input to the Grand Jury responding to each finding and recommendation of Case No. 022 that is applicable to the City of Ripon. Since the July meeting, staff has made a couple of additional minor changes, which are shown in tracked changes (see attached file “Final City Council Response to Grand Jury”).
Staff is requesting the City Council approve the final response to the Grand Jury. Following approval of the letter it will be submitted to the San Joaquin County Grand Jury as the City of Ripon’s official response.
