City Council
259 N. Wilma Avenue
Ripon, CA 95366
MEMO
To: Honorable City Council
From: Daniel Sauer, Chief of Police
Date: 12/12/2023
Subject: Ripon Rotary Foundation Donation
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Accept the donation from the Ripon Rotary Foundation to be used for the purchase of a Parrot Anafi USA Drone (donation: $7,540.00).

BACKGROUND: The donor has provided funds to the department to pay for equipment to be utilized by officers for our Unmanned Aerial System Program. The Ripon Rotary Foundation has donated the funds to enable the department to purchase a Parrot Anafi USA Drone. This will replace a drone that was purchased in 2017 that is now in need of replacement. With the purchase of this equipment, the Unmanned Aerial System Program will be equipped with two operational drones.

Only authorized operators who have completed the required training shall be permitted to operate the drone. Drones are beneficial to patrol operations when conducting search warrants, crime scene/traffic collision documentation, searching for missing persons and locating illegal encampments along the river.

FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost of the Parrot Anafi USA Drone is estimated to be $7,540, which will be funded by the Ripon Rotary Foundation. The drone comes with three (3) batteries with a run time of approximately 25 minutes each. It is recommended to purchase four (4) additional batteries ($515), to power longer deployments. A tablet ($510) may need to be purchased as a controller for the drone if our current tablet is not compatible. The fiscal impact would be $1,025 funded by the General Fund.
