Subject: East Main Street Traffic Signal
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Representatives from Fehr & Peers will present the traffic operations study findings and be available to answer any questions.
BACKGROUND:
The City was awarded $480,000 for the East Main Traffic Signal Project through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Program in 2019. The project proposes to install a traffic signal at the intersection of East Main Street and Highway 99 Northbound on/off ramps.
Currently traffic is controlled with stop signs. The funds received are only eligible for construction and include a 33% local match.
The City Council approved a proposal on February 14, 2023 from Fehr & Peers to perform a study to identify traffic conditions for current and buildout traffic volumes and recommended lane configuration at the East Main Street and Highway 99 intersection when the signal is installed. Additionally, Fehr & Peers will evaluate possible benefits to mitigate the impacts of cut-through traffic at this intersection.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The Ripon East Main Street Traffic Operations Study is attached. Representatives from Fehr & Peers will make a presentation summarizing their findings at the City Council meeting and be available to answer any questions.
