Ripon, CA 95366
MEMO
To: Honorable City Council
From: Lisa Roos, City Clerk & Finance Director
Date: 06/11/2024
Subject: Employment Practices Liability Insurance Renewal RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve the continued use of DiBuduo & DeFendis to provide Employment Practices Liability Insurance and authorize staff to proceed with payment when the invoice is received for fiscal year 2024-25.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Ripon has had Employment Liability Insurance (“EPLI”) since January 2015.
DiBuduo & DeFendis has been providing this coverage since inception through Professional Underwriters, Inc. The fiscal year 2023-24 premium expense was $17,257.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Staff has requested quotes from other insurance brokers, as is typically done every 5 years. The following is a summary of the response to the City’s request for quotes of EPLI coverage:
DiBuduo & DeFendis: $17,315.62
Micheletti Alternative Insurance Solutions: $23,465.50
Omega Pacific: $36,092.36
Merin Insurance: Unable to provide quote
One broker was unable to provide a quote because there is a limited number of underwriters for EPLI for government entities. If one broker has already requested a quote from the underwriter, another broker cannot request an additional quote for the same entity.
Staff recommends to continue to use DiBuduo & DeFendis as our Employment Practices Liability Insurance broker and authorize staff to proceed with payment when the invoice is received for fiscal year 2024-25.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The fiscal impact is $17,315.62 from the General Fund, Enterprise Funds, and the Street & Road Fund. This is a minimal increase as compared to the fiscal year 2023-24 premium of $17,257.62.
