Subject: Poet Laureate Program Grant Funding Request
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize staff to administer the first installment ($5,000) of the Poet Laureate grant money to the Ripon Arts League in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding.
BACKGROUND:
On January 9, 2024, the City of Ripon received a grant from The Library & Literacy Foundation for San Joaquin County (“Foundation”) – a philanthropic organization administered by the San Joaquin Community Foundation. The grant provides $15,000 of funding over the next three years to the City of Ripon to help establish its’ first City Poet Laureate Program.
On February 13, 2024, the City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ripon Arts League to administer the Poet Laureate Program.
The Ripon Arts League has assembled a committee to oversee the process of selecting a Poet Laureate. Attached is the Ripon Arts League plan of action for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
Staff is recommending the City Council authorize staff to distribute the first installment of the grant funding to the Ripon Arts League to move forward with the first year of the Poet Laureate Program.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Ripon Arts League has requested the first installment of $5,000 (funding source: Library & Literacy Foundation for San Joaquin County Poet Laureate program grant).
