MEMO
To: Honorable City Council
From: Kevin Werner, City Administrator
Date: 11/12/2024
Subject: Senior Center Rehabilitation Project
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Award the contract for the Senior Center Rehabilitation Project to Estate Design and Construction, Inc. in the amount of $348,000 and authorize staff to proceed (funding source:
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds).
BACKGROUND:
For the past several years the City of Ripon has been allocating the City’s annual allotment of CDBG funds towards an improvement project for the Ripon Senior Center. At this time, $421,967 of CDBG funds are available for this project.
In March 2019, the City contracted SKW & Associates to design a 1,300 square foot outdoor seating area on the southeast corner of the existing Ripon Senior Center parcel, which includes:
A metal shade structure (purchased by the City in October 2022) with light fixtures and ceiling fans.
A stucco wall surrounding the seating area for privacy. Access to the seating area will be provided from converting an existing window of the building to a door.
In addition to the seating area, the project includes re-landscaping the front and side of the Ripon Senior Center, rehabilitation and updating the front building façade (including modification of the existing parapet roof, removal of existing stone veneer on the front office portion and replacing with wood plank siding), and removing and replacing existing concrete with stamped concrete.
The Friends of the Senior Center have provided comments regarding the project.
