Subject: Community Center Tennis Courts Change Order #1 RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Approve Change Order No. 1 for various contract changes in the not to exceed amount of $48,283.92 (funding source: Parks and Recreation Capital Fund).

BACKGROUND:

The Community Center Tennis Courts Project was awarded to Consolidated Engineering, Inc. at the October 8, 2024 City Council meeting in the amount of $426,250.20. The Community Center Tennis Courts Project includes the removal and reconstruction of the tennis courts, new playing surface that includes striping for tennis and pickle ball play, and the installation of tennis and pickle ball netting.

DISCUSSION:

The Community Center Tennis Courts Project contract is recommended to be amended to include the following changes:

Project Sign: The City received a Proposition 68 grant for the reconstruction of the tennis courts. A condition of the grant was to post a sign near the project indicating this grant source.

The additional cost of this sign is $1,461.07.

Replacement of Existing Water Fountains (2 ea): The site had two water fountains that were installed when the tennis courts were initially constructed and no longer working as intended.

Staff requested a price to remove these fountains and replace with two new water fountains. The additional cost related to this work is $9,466.13.

Gate Post Credit: The contract required the contractor to install new posts for a gate. Because of a utility conflict, the contractor was directed to use an existing post. The credit related to this change is $650.00.

Temporary Striping and Pickleball Net Construction: The playing surface included in the contract is an acrylic coating that can only be applied when the asphalt surface is at least 50 degrees. In order to allow the public to use the tennis and pickle ball courts without a significant delay, the contractor was directed to install temporary striping. Also, the City pre-purchased four (4) moveable pickle ball net system, which were assembled by the contractor. The additional cost related to this work is $13,896.48.

Additional Aggregate Base and Asphalt: The contract document includes an estimate of the quantity of materials in order to complete the scope of work. When the contractor submits a bid, a unit price is included for each line item in the bid. During construction, the actual quantity is measured. When there are changes, the quantity is adjusted and the total for the line item is recalculated using the bid unit cost. This change includes the quantity changes to the aggregate base and asphalt line items. The additional cost related to these changes is $24,110.24.
