City Council
259 N. Wilma Avenue
Ripon, CA 95366
MEMO
To: Honorable City Council
From: James Pease, Public Works Director
Date: 06/10/2025
Subject: Modesto Sand and Gravel
RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Approve and authorize the Mayor to sign the contract with Modesto Sand and Gravel to demolish and remove a storage building at the Mistlin Sports Park, in the not to exceed amount of $13,000 (funding source: Parks & Recreation Public Facilities Financing Plan (PFFP) Fund).

DISCUSSION:

The City of Ripon previously acquired land north of the developed portion of the Mistlin Sports Park near Clinton South Avenue for future expansion. This existing land has an unlivable house, wooden barn, metal storage building and a detached garage. Due to safety concerns and the poor existing condition of the metal storage building staff is recommending it be demolished and removed. The attached contract with Modesto Sand and Gravel is to demolish and remove the metal storage building along with a modular office inside the building and the concrete pad.

Looking ahead, the unlivable house and wooden barn will also be removed. The house will need to be inspected for asbestos prior to removal, the existing residential well will need to be abandoned and a small underground diesel storage tank will need removed as well. The detached garage will remain and continue to be used for storage.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The attached contract with Modesto Sand and Gravel for the amount of $13,000 will be paid for through the Parks & Recreation PFFP Fund.
