Safety Wellness and Youth Committee Memorandum
TO: SAFETY, WELLNESS AND YOUTH COMMITTEE DATE: March 16, 2022 FROM: OFFICE OF HOMELESS SOLUTIONS WARDS: ALL
SUBJECT: HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE COUNTY OF RIVERSIDE PROJECT ROOMKEY ISSUE:

Receive a presentation on the Housing Authority of the County of Riverside Project Roomkey.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the Safety, Wellness and Youth Committee receive and file a verbal update on the Housing Authority of the County of Riverside Project Roomkey.

BACKGROUND:

Project Roomkey (PRK) was established in March 2020 as part of the state response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of Project Roomkey is to provide non-congregate shelter options for people experiencing homelessness, protect human life, and minimize strain on health care system capacity.

The PRK and Rehousing Strategy is designed to quickly provide dedicated resources to ensure PRK units remain online through the continued public health emergency and that homelessness is non-recurring. PRK units are intended to be temporary, emergency shelter options, while also serving as a pathway to permanent housing.

DISCUSSION:

The Housing Authority of the County of Riverside will provide an update on the Project Roomkey program totals while highlighting the City of Riverside’s data to show activity throughout the eight motels contracted to receive Project Roomkey vouchers to support individuals experiencing homelessness. Additionally, specific housing connections will be shared to understand what programs were leveraged to create a pathway to permanent supportive housing.

STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT:

Because this is a presentation from the RUHS-BH, it is not required to align with the City’s strategic plan.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact related to this staff report.
