2 The City Council serves as the elected legislative and policy ‐making body of the City , enacting all laws and directing any actions necessary to provide for the general welfare of the community. Their function is established in the City Charter (Section CH. 406), which states: “All powers of the City shall be vested in the City Council except as otherwise provided in this Charter.” As part of the ward districted boundary system of government, each Council Member represents a different ward, ensuring that the citizenry receives equal representation.

6 General Council Assistant duties include:
• Performing a wide variety of administrative and community relation duties for City Council Members.
• Representing Council Members in the community and providing feedback regarding community programs, events, and other meetings. • Receive and respond to community/citizen complaints.
• Research and compile information for special presentations at Council meetings. • Coordinate and schedule appointments, meetings, and engagements for the City Council.
• Perform research on a variety of community and/or legislative issues.
