The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) offers the State Homeland Security Program (SHSP) grant to prepare the Nation for the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk to the security of the United States. The Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 SHSP is set against the backdrop of recent years in which the United States faced numerous and unprecedented natural disasters including hurricanes that devastated parts of Texas, Florida, and much of Puerto Rico, and massive wildfires across California. In addition to these natural disasters, the United States also responded to multiple incidents as part of the evolving threat landscape, mass casualty events involving both vehicles and active shooters. The purpose of SHSP is to provide Federal funds to states to support state, local, territorial, and tribal government terrorism preparedness.

Equity – Funding provided by the State Homeland Security Program help the Fire Department deliver classes to our diverse community including those with access and functional needs.
