Smart Features:Smart Connect- The ability to transmit over LTEcellular under emergency circumstances. Thisprovides an officer with the ability to connectto dispatchers, supervisors, and other officersthrough a cellular connection in an areawhere a PSEC radio signal is not available.Smart Locate– A safety feature that uses GPSfunctionality to allow radio users to locate oneanother in real time. Additional Features:Smart Messaging– The capability to transmit and receive messages betweenradios, as well as send text and photo messages from dispatch consoles toradios.ViQi Voice Control– Allows the user operate the radio with voice commands,similar to various smartphones. Voice commands include changing the radiochannel or zone, adjusting the volume, and other programmable functions bypressing the ViQi button and speaking into the microphone.ViQi Virtual Partner– Pending approval in California, the APX Next radio iscapable of running a version of CAD software allowing an officer to conductrecords checks like a license plate or driver’s license as they could from thepolice vehicle’s MDC, using voice commands.DISCUSSION RiversideCA.gov8

That City Council:1. Approve the purchase of up to 550 Motorola APX Next Single Band Model 4.5 portable radios, radio accessories, software, and warranty from Motorola Solutions, Inc., of San Diego, California, in the amount of $4,930,632.19, and2. Authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute any documents that may be necessary to complete the purchase of the radios. RECOMMENDATIONS
