Hi Donna, I am sending a letter to submit an appeal for the findings of the transportation board for John St. speed bumps for speed control. This letter below, is written by my neighbors who live across the street from me, Derrick and Judy Takano. I also want to state that from the stop sign at Victoria Ave and John St., to the next stop sign at John St and Cleveland is a 1/4 mile long and it is use like a racing straight away. I am sending a picture taken from John St and Victoria Ave looking SE toward Cleveland Ave to show how tempting it is to speed down the road. I am asking you to please submit the photo along with this email to the Transportation Board for their consideration.

Thank you,
Loretta Lewis

Hello Donna,

We are Judy and Derrick Takano, and have resided on John Street since 1993, across the street from Lori Lewis. John Street is a wonderful street located in the greenbelt of Riverside. We have no sidewalks and a V ditch on the grove side of the street. There is only one house on the west side of the street, and the street is very narrow. We have no sidewalks, and it can be hazardous if cars are traveling faster than 25 miles per hour, which they often do.

The street is home to many families with children, as well as large and small animals, and pedestrians. We all on John Street are highly concerned for the safety of our loved ones and pets. In recent years, traffic on John Street has increased, especially during peak commuter times, as people often cut through to avoid the freeway and Van Buren. We also have many large trucks and nursery traffic impacting the narrow road.

The only current way to slow traffic is to park on the street, which is incredibly dangerous. We have proposed installing speed bumps on the road to slow traffic and achieve a higher level of safety. We also believe that many of the individuals who are cutting through would avoid John Street, as the speed bumps would be a significant deterrent, reducing their ability to speed.

We are seeking approval to install speed bumps, which will help return our beloved street to a safe environment for all.

Thank you for your review of this appeal. We are lifelong residents of Riverside and are deeply passionate about our city and keeping it safe for families to thrive.

Judy and Derrick Takano
