BACKGROUND•As part of the Riverwalk Landscaping and LightingMaintenance District (LMD), the perimeter fencinglocated along the roadway is maintained throughLMD funding. The existing fencing has reached theend of its useful life after approximately 20 years.Constructed from a PVC-based material, the fencehas experienced significant deterioration due toprolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, causing the material to become brittle andsusceptible to cracking, breakage, and failure.•To address these conditions, staff recommendreplacing the existing fencing with an Urban DesignSolid Core HDPE Sierra 2-Rail Fence constructedfrom recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE).Unlike the existing PVC fencing, the proposed solid-core HDPE material is engineered to withstandprolonged exposure to the elements, offeringsuperior durability, resistance to UV degradation, and reduced maintenance requirements. Themanufacturer estimates an expected service life ofmore than 30 years under normal conditions. 1 2
