SUBJECT: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL STANDING COMMITTEES AND REGIONAL
ORGANIZATION ASSIGNMENTS
ISSUE:
Consideration of the Mayor’s Nominating and Screening Committee Recommendation regarding Mayor and City Council appointments to Standing Committees and Regional Organizations representing the City of Riverside.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council:
1. Consider the Mayor’s Nominating and Screening Committee recommendation for that appointments remain as shown on the current the City Council Standing Committees and Regional Organizations.
BACKGROUND/LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
The City Council Rules of Procedure and Order of Business (Rules) provide that following each election and/or appointment to fill a City Council vacancy, reorganization of City Council Standing Committee and regional organization assignments shall be considered by the Mayor's Nominating and Screening Committee (MNSC) for a recommendation to the City Council. The resolution further provides that to the greatest extent possible, preferences of senior Councilmembers shall be honored. Councilmembers shall forward preferences on assignments to the City Clerk to be shared at the Mayor's Nominating and Screening Committee meeting.
The Rules further state that each Standing Committee shall be comprised of three members. Each Council member shall serve as Chair, Vice-Chair, and Member of three Committees, respectively.
The MNSC shall include the Mayor, who shall serve as Chair, and the Inclusiveness, Community Engagement, and Governmental Processes Committee members.
MNSC COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION:
The Mayor's Nominating and Screening Committee met on August 11, 2026, with Mayor Lock Dawson and Councilmembers Falcone and Conder present and unanimously recommended that the standing committees and regional organizations assignments remain as shown on the attached rosters.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with assignments to regional organizations. Costs for participation of elected officials on regional organizations are included in the annual Budget.
