City Council Memorandum
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: SEPTEMBER 15, 2026 FROM: FIRE DEPARTMENT WARDS: ALL SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE EVENT AGREEMENT WITH TYLER MALL LIMITED PARTNERSHIP FOR ANNUAL READY RIVERSIDE PUBLIC SAFETY EXPO IN RIVERSIDE, CA ISSUE:
Consider approving an Event Agreement with Tyler Mall Limited Partnership to allow the City of Riverside Fire Department to conduct the Ready Riverside Public Safety Expo on the grounds of the Galleria at Tyler shopping center. This outreach event will take place on September 26, 2026. The location has been utilized for several years and provides an opportunity to engage directly with the community to encourage and improve emergency preparedness.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the City Council:
Approve the Event Agreement with the Tyler Mall Limited Partnership to enable Riverside Fire Department to conduct the Ready Riverside Public Safety Expo at the Galleria at Tyler on September 26, 2026; and Authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute the Event Agreement with Tyler Mall Limited Partnership and to execute any minor, non-substantive amendments or modifications necessary to implement the agreement.
BACKGROUND:
For over ten years during National Preparedness Month the City of Riverside Office of Emergency Management held the Ready Riverside Preparedness Fair. Four years ago, the downtown Public Safety Expo hosted by the City of Riverside Fire Department and Police Department merged with Ready Riverside Preparedness Fair held at the Galleria at Tyler for cost savings and to increase traffic at the event.
DISCUSSION:
The Galleria at Tyer has served for many years as the location of one of the region’s largest preparedness fairs during National Preparedness Month. The site provides one of the best outreach opportunities due to the vehicle and foot traffic at the mall.
The event is held on Saturday’s from 12:00pm to 3:00pm due to that traditionally being the busiest day and time. Public Safety partners bring their apparatus, equipment, and outreach materials. Members of the public can interact with fire, law enforcement, emergency management, public works and utility personnel to learn about hazards that may affect them and how to respond to them.
Approval of the Event Agreement will allow the Department to continue utilizing a proven outreach venue and ensure our residents receive the proper preparedness information from public safety partners.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with approval of this agreement.
