laws. Chief Banks underscored that RPD's model of enforcement was to promote the safety of children and acknowledged the Public Works department for restriping the road around Granite Oaks Middle School to facilitate safe arrival and departure of students.

City Manager Zimmermann noted that Chief Banks could address questions or provide clarification, but if the City Council would like to have a larger discussion, the item would have to be agendized for a future meeting.

Vice Mayor Gayaldo thanked the Chief Banks for the update, noted that fake pedals were being installed on e-bikes and, and wondered with changes in technology if the code was up to date to allow for enforcement. Chief Banks responded that RPD's goal was to focus on education with the public including with parents, to ensure accountability, help simplify complex law and indicated that the department was able to navigate the present law sufficiently. Vice Mayor Gayaldo appreciated the education efforts as parents could be unfamiliar with the law, but underscored the dangers of e-bikes.

Mayor Janda echoed comments expressed by Vice Mayor Gayaldo on education and enforcement, and asked if RPD was making headway on its efforts. Chief Banks responded that although there was an immediate response after targeted enforcement, the department will have to look into sustaining this; he was open to creative ways to keep the community safe and felt that the department was doing well currently with addressing e-bikes and scooters. Mayor Janda added that the City Council would support RPD with any future needs on this issue.
