Please state the reason(s) you would like to serve on this legislative body.
I would like to serve a second term on the Sacramento Ethics Commission as I want to continue helping my community and the City instill policies and processes that promote government accountability. I am interested in strengthening community confidence in our City government by helping to ensure city officials comply with the laws and policies of the City and that they conform their conduct to maintain public trust. I believe the formal review and investigation of complaints against City officials need to be handled ethically - with integrity, openness, and fairness - in order to preserve high public esteem while also preserving the rights and reputations of public officials.
Please list all of your professional experience directly related to the seat you are applying for.
I am an incumbent to the Sacramento Ethics Commission, having served a term lasting from January 2, 2018, through January 1, 2022. During my time on the Ethics Commission, I served as Vice-Chair during calendar years 2019 and 2020 and served as Chair for the calendar year 2021. Additionally, I am admitted to the State Bar of California and the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States and have spent much of my professional experience working directly with governments, handling sensitive matters with integrity and impartiality, and working on issues around ethics and governmental accountability. I currently work in policy through my work at the Judicial Council of California, the policymaking body for the California state court system. Prior to this, I was with the Council of State Governments Justice Center, a national non-profit, non-partisan organization that provides practical, research-based strategies to local and state governments looking to improve communities through public health and public safety reforms. This work allowed me to work closely with not only the State of California but also with county and city governments across the state.
Please list any training or education directly related to the seat you are applying for.
I routinely take ethics-related training, including ethics training required through my service on the Sacramento Ethics Commission, as well as ethics-related continuing legal education courses, and professional development training. When possible, I also try to attend training applicable to general public board service, such as having attended training on the Brown Act.
Please list any additional experience, community activities, volunteering experience, or other qualifications that would be helpful in evaluating your application.
I am a proud AmeriCorps alum and enjoy engaging in professional and civic activities as much as I can. I am a member of the American Bar Association and have held leadership positions within the organization since 2009, and I sit on the Board of Directors for the Forensic Mental Health Association of California. I volunteer regularly with the California YMCA Youth and Government program, particularly in support of its model legislature and court program. Prior to the public health responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, I volunteered with Welcome Home Housing, a local nonprofit that provides affordable housing and services to people who have mental illnesses. Though I do not volunteer for the recognition, I have received awards for volunteering, including being a past recipient of the U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award during the Obama Administration, and a past recipient of a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for my service to the community.

Please state the reason(s) you would like to serve on this legislative body.
I recently moved to Sacramento and have decided this is the city I want to call home. As such, it is important to give back to the community. There is no better way to do that to make sure that elected and appointed officials conform their conduct to the highest ethical standards in serving the city.
City officials must avoid conflicts of interests and always avoid even the appearance of impropriety. I have found
Sacramento to be very progressive politically and the city is very fortunate to have city officials working around the clock to make this city one of the best in the State to live. Although I have come to understand Sacramento is very underrated and deserves admiration and respect for the political climate and quality of life here. I know that I have a superior understandin g of the code of ethics for attorneys, meaning with additional study, I will be able to apply my knowledge to the code of conduct for appointed and elected officials. I am professional , respectful, and work well with others. Most important I am always fair. This is a great educational opportunity for me and is should be for all the people that have business wit the Sacramento Ethics Commission.
