There is no reason for the City Council or any other board or commission meetings to continue failing to meet in public. This "emergency" is being used in such a way as to discourage and disallow public debate and scrutiny.

This measure has not been properly noticed, and has not undergone the vigorous discussion and investigation of potential unintended consequences of its passage. It should be tabled until fully vetted.

Members of the City Council:

The South Land Park Neighborhood Association (SLPNA) is supporting the proposed tree removal and replacement plan pending before the City Council.

The bulk of the Del Rio Trail will be contained within South Land Park, an area of over 14,000 residents. We have a strong interest in what happens on this property, and our association strongly supports maximizing the tree canopy within our community.

Importantly, SLPNA has not received any opposition from our membership or our neighbors regarding this tree proposal, and our Executive Committee has unanimously voted to support the arborist report. We appreciate the effort to maximize tree preservation and to plant a considerable number of new trees.

We look forward to working with the City and its contractors as the project is built.

Sincerely,
ANTHONY JACKSON, President
SLPNA Board of Directors

Council Members:

My home is adjacent to the trail & I support this tree plan. I have been deeply involved in this project.

In the Fall of 2013, I partnered w/ neighbor Mike Conlan, & together we organized South Sacramento's strong opposition to the State Parks tourist train proposal for this abandoned rail corridor. Eventually, hundreds of neighbors joined our successful fight to defeat the train plan. But we are not NIMBYs. We quickly pivoted & pushed for development of the corridor into a community trail. We testified at hearings & created the Trail & Greenbelt Committee & Del Rio Trail Committee. We were eventually joined by officials at City/County/State/Federal levels. In my role as President of the South Land Park Neighborhood Association, I testified on 3/26/2019 in favor of the City Council proposal to approve the Del Rio Trail project.

Trees are vital to our neighborhood. This plan respects & improves our tree canopy.

Councilmembers,
I have supported the Del Rio Trail since the current project began, and volunteered many hours with the neighborhood association, working with City staff, to support the project. My home backs up to the trail. I continue to strongly support the project after reviewing the plans, including for tree removal and replacement. From the earliest discussions on this project, it was clear tree removal would be necessary to see it through. The City and Dokken Engineering have done what they feasibly can to preserve trees, and the project will result in more than twice as many planted as removed. The tree replacement plan has been designed to take additional advantage of newly planted trees beyond just mitigation of numbers, including 1) large trees planted between the trail and Darnel Way to account for tree removal and lost privacy there, and 2) large numbers of trees along south Freeport Blvd, which will substantially enhance the aesthetics of that road.

Hello City Council,
I am a home owner in South Land Park, a former neighborhood association vice president & president and live blocks away from the Del Rio Trail, and I am in support of the removal of 384 trees to make way for the overall project construction and the planting of over 800+ new trees.

I appreciate the efforts made in the tree survey to “save” as many current trees along the trail and am excited that 800+ trees will add to the overall city canopy.

With a couple more milestones togo,I can’t wait for the Del Rio Trail project to be constructed, active and become a gem for the city & YPCE, right in the heart of my neighborhood.

City Attorney Wood should have made this presentation 6 months ago before the entire city was deceived into believing that the new District Boundaries had legal standing. The City Attorney/Sacramento City Mayor and Council needs to immediately file a lawsuit asking the Sacramento Superior Court to adjudicate the issue by ruling for a Declaratory Relief by allowing the new boundaries of District 4 be the Central City and East Sacramento.
