Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this comment. I was not able to attend the City Council meeting today but wanted to send an e-comment regarding the budget.

I am Dr. Lindsey Ayala and I work as a licensed clinical psychologist in the Sacramento region. I work closely with adults, children, and families in our community and understand the value of investing in public programs that support the health and wellness of our community.

It is very very concerning that the city is proposing a continued budget that allocates such a high percentage of funds to law enforcement/law enforcement adjacent areas and threatens to pull more money from other programs. Living in the great state of California, and the capital of that state no-less; a place that prides itself on being inclusive and supportive of one another, I strongly encourage and support a budget that focuses more on the needs of the community through funding for mental health care, homeless support, childcare, education, public parks, mentorship/after school programs, and substance use support programs. These are all tools that communities can use to take care of one another and avoid an increase in crime due to inequality. Please support a budget that supports the entire Sacramento community at the front end and leads individuals to successful, healthy lives.

Thank you for your time and hard work!

We are asking the full council to exercise prudent judgement when considering the police funding this evening.

This evening, any consideration of defunding Sac PD is totally unacceptable. Just read the news - insane traffic, crime, shootings, mentally disturbed folks, thefts,
and this is happening right here in midtown and our City.

As concerned citizens, we will be listening and watching closely to the final vote. If we have an outcome where there has been a disregard for the safety and
security of our neighbors then we will have to take action and join with others to support those who are interested in making safety and security of citizens a top
priority.

To Sacramento City Councilmembers,

At tonight's city council meeting, the Land Park Community Association asks council members to approve item #16, the Proposed Budget for the Sacramento Police Department.

As crime has increased, our neighborhood has seen it impact citizens and the safety of our park and local businesses. We request you approve this essential funding. We are the capital of California and must lead by example. Our police force should have the most robust budget, tools, and support to combat crime and ensure public safety.

The Land Park Community Association says;

YES, to providing law enforcement with new shot spotters to help track illegal guns and remove them from the hands of criminals. Neighbors, including our board members, have heard more gunshot activity on evenings and weekends, this must stop.

YES, to more Police Observation Devices (PODs) tracking speeding and dangerous drivers. Neighbors constantly complain about the increase in speeding on neighborhood streets. There have been several hit and runs near William Land Park.

Victims of speeders deserve justice and police need support to identify criminals.

YES, to more body-worn cameras that support law enforcement transparency.

Cameras also hold criminals accountable in court for their behavior.

YES, to funding more officers and more hours. We can’t keep overworking law enforcement. As our city grows, so do opportunities for criminals. Our police force is understaffed for the current size of Sacramento. The budget items are not "new funding." Public safety is playing catch-up with past budget cuts and recent population increases.

Public safety is one of the primary responsibilities of our city leaders. We hope you support Sacramento PD and show the hard-working, law-abiding citizens of Sacramento we are your priority.

Thank You,

Land Park Community Assoc.
