2022 City of
Sacramento
Community
Survey
Office of the City Auditor – Research and Analysis
Division
Jorge Oseguera, City Auditor
June 28, 2022
Background
Sample Size
A representative sample of
7,000 households from
across the City were sent
the 2022 survey.
Oversampled in some
districts due to historically
low response rates.
Survey Timing
The Survey was
administered from February
18, 2022, to April 8, 2022.
This timing coincided with
the COVID-19 pandemic
which may have impacted
the 2022 results.
Response Rate
700 survey respondents (10
percent response rate). This
is a statistically significant
sample of City residents
with a 95% confidence
interval and +/- 4% margin
of error.
Open Participation
The open participation
survey became available
March 25, 2022, and was
open two weeks. There were
1,319 responses to the
open participation survey
which was analyzed
separately in the report.
Online Dashboard
The results of both the
representative sample and open
participation survey are available

facets of a community.
Last year
Importance vs. Quality
Highlights
Economic Concerns
•Residents are less optimistic
this year about the impact
the economy would have on
their personal lives.
•When asked how the
economy would likely affect
their family’s income in the
next six months, only 18% of
residents anticipated a
positive impact (compared
to 29% last year), while 43%
expected negative effects.
Affordability Concerns
•Survey participants noted
growing concerns about
affordability across
numerous facets of livability
such as:
•Cost of living
•Availability of affordable
quality food
•Availability of affordable
quality health care
•Availability of affordable
quality housing
Safety Concerns
•Many safety-related ratings
declined since Sacramento’s
previous survey, suggesting
an opportunity for renewed
focus in this area. Areas of
concern include:
•Overall feeling of safety
•Feeling of safety in
downtown/commercial
areas during the day
•Feeling of safety from
violent crime
•Feeling of safety from
property crime
