I know common sense is not that common, but CM Harris' location for his homeless housing development is completely inappropriate. Across from an elementary school? Children are 12 years and younger! There is no security for the children that walk to and from school. In what world did this make sense for CM Harris or Joshua House? The Mayor and other city council members need to take action and stop this direct attack on the children and staff of Garden Valley Elementary.

I strongly oppose to build Joshua House Homeless hospice right across from Garden Valley Elementary School.
This location is NOT appropriate for this project. This project is unsafe to our small children who attend this elementary school and the people living in the neighborhood. Kids should be expose to a positive environment and a homeless house is Not.

I am in shock and awe at the blatant way CM Harris and Joshua House have treated the Garden Valley community. We have been transparent in our opposite of the homeless housing project (in any form) to be developed across from an elementary school for the past 3 years. CM Harris has withheld information from us and has dismissed any chance to work together with this community. The distrust is strong against CM Harris and we are asking the Mayor and the other city council members to halt this homeless housing project and relocate it to a lot that is better suited for the homeless they will serve and for the community.

¡Detenlo ahora!

Please stop CM Harris' homeless housing development that is currently set to be developed across from Garden Valley Elementary. He has stated that he thinks the Twin Rivers Unified School's district request for fences is "too excessive". He is public going on TV and disregarding the children and the parent's concerns while not being able to share how drugs are even being stored at the facility. This homeless housing development is not in the best interest of the homeless they will serve, the children and staff at Garden Valley Elementary, or the direct community this will impact. Stop him now!

DETENGA

I am opposed to District 3 's Councilman Jeff Harris' homeless housing development that is set to be located ACROSS FROM AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. Garden Valley parents and staff have many concerns about the safety and security that CM Harris and Joshua's House have FAILED to acknowledge or take into consideration.
They have continued to lie to the community that this will impact and has LIED to the city council and Mayor about community support for this project. The purpose of Sacramento's homeless initiative is to build facilities that will be intentional with maximum impact on Sacramento's growing homeless population. The current location of this homeless housing development is across from an elementary school and is not beneficial to the homeless they will serve or the impacted community. Joshua House and CM Harris are not being transparent and are not listening to the community that is comprised of most BIPOC. STOP HOMELESS HOUSING (IN ANY FORM) IN FRONT OF GARDEN VALLEY ELEMENTARY .

This is my community and I’m really getting tired of speaking on this. What do you think my kids are going to think once they here that the place across from their school is a place where people are living that are about to die???? No consideration for the kids whatsoever. This can be built somewhere else. Once again like usual taking advantage of a middle class mostly minority neighborhood. Sickening!! Uriel Castro

I don’t think it’s a good idea to have homeless people around children they can be violent and can end up causing harm to a child . Plus 85% of them are drug users that’s not the type of people we want our kids around! I myself have been attacked by a homeless and I had my infant child in my hands! I’m sorry I just can’t and won’t let my kids grow up around that environment please don’t build the building next to our kids school!

Proposed Homeless Triage Center at Del Paso Park
Sacramento City Councilmember-
For the Love of God, DO NOT approve Mayor Steinberg’s self-serving placement of this facility next door the Children’s Receiving Center.
It may be argued that an attack by a transient of a child is speculative, but the unquestionable anxiety induced in the Children due to the proximity of this homeless facility absolutely trumps any benefit the homeless might gain.
Please decline this location and find a new site in a more suitable location.
Sincerely,
John R. Hoffman

I’m my personal opinion yes we need a place for the homeless where they could feel the comfort of a home and a decent meal but I also believe that there is a better location!!! I think we need to compromise and find a more suitable location where they can have dignity and respect but also away from small school-age children.
Children are our future and they need to feel safe and not fear any kind of danger. Our children are already exposed to so much way add more. We have already seen how easy it is for anyone to enter our schools and put our children in danger with violence (shooting and stabbing) why not try to prevent this from happening by adding a park or community center where our community can come together. We already have so much going on in our schools (Elementary, middle school, high schools) why not compromise.

The City Council must listen to this neighborhood and the TRUSD, who is more than willing to work with the City to find a suitable location for this transitional housing. I totally disagree that they continue with the joshuas house hospice project that wants to be build in front of GARDEN VALLEY SCHOOL because it will be a danger to our children, we have asked them in many ways, we have given our comment and the only thing they have done is ignore, I do not understand how they can do this type of project in front of a school.
I am especially talking about myself. I have two daughters. I live behind where they want to do the hospice. The only thing that is going to separate me is going to be my fence. What security or privacy they going to provide. A week ago, a homeless man tried to break in thru the back yard. We live with fear with all this that is going on and the homeless are taking over the neighborhood, it is good that they want to help but not here have compassion for those who work and pay rent they want ti have a safe home! Lets be realistic for one time!

I'm not right with jouses house in front of a school for the danger of the kids we all know the in the news and news paper that have attacked people and kids are vounerble if you really wanted to help the homeless people you guys would put them in a other area away from kids and schools but I think that you guys close the school in a future and this community was relaxed and you guys want to ruin it and destroy it because your kids don't live here because I'm a mom who lives here and I'm not right with that.

Good afternoon. I am against Joseph House because it does not seem right to me that it is in front of a school where children spend most of the day there and those people need silence. I think they also have rights. But why not look for them? another place because it has to be in front of Garden Valley if they really wanted communities to grow they would look for another area where there was more land for other projects but it seems their purpose is different thanks

Mayor Steinberg believes we should say “yes” more. Agreed! Say yes where it is appropriate. Across Garden Valley Elementary is not appropriate; across the Children’s Receiving Home is not appropriate. This ploy to cleanup Downtown by relocating to minority communities cannot go unnoticed. Find an industrial area where communities’ children are not endangered. Until then, we say “no” (in Español too).

Good evening, I am opposing the Joshua house/transitional home for homeless because it does not provide safety, motivation, inspiration, to our children that are attending the Garden Valley elementary school. The idea of it being across the street from the elementary school is disappointing because the children’s purity, curiosity, and safety of these children is being jeopardized by this being next to their school. According to attorney Peck he states that there is a 13 to 24% chance of elderly people eloping from their nursing homes what makes that percentage any different from a transitional home for homeless people across the street from an elementary school. What type of safety is going to be enforced in this facility being placed next to Garden Valley Elementary school?

I'm opposed to the construction of Joshua's house. The children of Garden Valley Elementary School deserve something that encourages them to go to school. That makes them proud of the community they live in. A transitional housing with service with hospice for the homeless will not benefit these children. I'm baffled as to why the city wants to place this project so close to an Elementary School! I'm glad that TRUSD placed a resolution opposing Joshua's house.

Although a homeless hospice is a great idea for those in need of food and shelter in our community I feel there must be a more
appropriate location for it. Garden Valley is an elementary school with small children who would be exposed to an unsafe environment.
My family and I are oppose to this project, we strongly agree that it would bring panic and discomfort to our community. Our children
have the right to feel safe in and around their school. Please reconsider your location as for it would bring peace and comfort to those
whom it would be affected by this project.

We continue to demand that our voices be heard by the Council and stop the placement of Joshua’s House in front of Garden Valley Elementary School. Like our community, the TRUSD was also not adequately involved in the decision to move forward with this proposal. We are extremely happy that the TRUSD adopted a resolution opposing the placement of this project in front of our elementary school. The city needs to listen to the affected community and the school district. The TRUSD is more than willing to work with the Council and the nonprofit to find a suitable location for this project that will not directly impact any school. We demand that the Council and the nonprofit act responsibly and work with the TRUSD to this end. I strongly oppose the location of the Joshua housing. It is social injustice to think it is appropriate to have this type of service/population directly across the street from an elementary school. These politicians are willing to put our community at risk instead of using their resources effectively to look for a better suited area. Mayor Strindberg and Councilmember Harris have lost my support, vote, and respect. They believe they can get away with it because it is a BIPOC neighborhood. Joshua House-
I am oppose to building across from Garden Valley School. I am a home owner in this community since 1972, my family has been here since 1957. I have seen many changes since then to the area. This location is not good for the neighborhood or the children going back & forth to school everyday and going to school events after school hours. The city of Sacramento MUST have others vacant properties that would be a better fit. Our community is the hard working class and I feel that the city doesn’t care.

I am opposed to the construction of Joshua’s house. I am frustrated and saddened that the city is once again proposing a homeless facility in front of my former elementary school. The children of this community deserve something better. Something that motivates them whenever they walk to school. For instance, a community center or some other facility that will help them become successful. The proposed project has no benefit for the children. For as long as I remember, that lot has only contained trash and homeless camps. This brings no motivation to children. Council member Jeff Harris claims that the community is in favor of this project. However, he only references the select individuals and organizations that support him, not those of us who have been opposed to this project from the start. Our number one priority is to ensure that the children of this community are provided security in and out of school. Which is why I am glad TRUSD adopted a resolution to oppose Joshua’s House.

So why this neighborhood? What will be the psychological effects for these elementary children? The School District’s Board Resolution opposing the placement of Joshua’s School District resolution and ask that the City Council stop Joshua’s House. Twins Rivers is willing to work with city council for a different location! For a more intelligent location! There is plenty of empty lots and empty buildings! City members think about what you are doing if something happens to these children (physically/mentally) there will be a heavy fine to pay costing you lots of money but most importantly your dignity!!!!

Council member Jeff Harris said during June 14th’s meeting that there was two community out reaches for said project and that someone is spreading fear in our community about this project. Mr. Harris, with all due respect this “fear” is from the lack of communication and our community being ignored for speaking up against this project being in front of Garden Valley Elementary. I wouldn’t consider community outreach, reaching out to neighboring communities and not THE COMMUNITY that will have any type of impact with projects being proposed in their neighborhood. Our community and children deserve dignity and representation.
