Title: Addressing Domestic Violence within Sacramento

File ID: 2022-01417

Location: Citywide

Recommendation: Our team believes that the City of Sacramento should share resources (including names of shelters, assistance programs, and educational resources) with victims of domestic violence. We suggest that the city share these resources through the promotion of our website, sacdvresources.carrd.co, which contains valuable resources for both advocates and survivors of domestic violence.

1-Description/Analysis

Issue Detail: Domestic Violence is on the rise in Sacramento County and is getting more violent throughout the years. Authorities and domestic violence services are working across the region of Sacramento to respond to the spiking domestic violence cases since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board of Supervisors explains “We quickly recognized that the isolation of quarantine put domestic violence victims in a more vulnerable place - often trapped within the same walls.”

In recent years, more and more victims have been losing their lives in the pandemic. In 2020, eight victims in Sacramento lost their lives due to domestic homicides with two of the victims in murder suicides. In comparison to 2019, two people died because of domestic violence causing an increase of 58% in only one year.
