1-Description/Analysis
Issue Detail: Millions of people have already heard of the term ‘recycling’ and ‘composting’, though not everyone knows how to apply these practices in their day-to- day lives, nor does everybody know where their nearest recycling centers are. In addition, those who might know how to implement these practices, may not have the access to local recycling centers, or areas designated for composting, and even containers for composting and recycling. Team Hug a Tree interviewed and researched the topic to conduct a proper idea on what we must address.
To address this issue, we need to take effective action bringing awareness—as well as to educate and inform the people in the City of Sacramento of all the resources available to contribute and make a change. We plan to use a Public Service Announcement (PSA) video and a billboard to achieve this. The PSA and Billboard aim to bring awareness to the citizens of Sacramento—youth and elderly alike—about the issue of Recycling and Composting, as well as the free available resources that they will have access to.
We hope to make information more accessible for the community in addition to helping maintain and promote biodegradable trash bags for compost bins, increasing the sustainability of repurposing. Furthermore, it helps inform everybody about the obstacles the city faces with regards to the practices of recycling and composting, as well as encouraging them to take action and to think before throwing away any recyclable and biodegradable wastes.
