1-Description/Analysis:
Issue Detail:
Drought is the shortage of water due to an increase in drier temperatures and climate.
Droughts in California have been recurring for the last 128 years. Drought is unpredictable since it is the result of changes in climate and weather. As an agricultural state, drought has negatively impacted our economy.
California allocates 10% of water for urban use, 40% for agricultural, and 50% for environmental. Due to the heavy reliance of water in the agricultural sector, California’s economy for farmers has fallen. Farmers need to supply 4.2-million more-acre feet which has resulted in an increase of around $184 million in energy bills. In addition, $1.7 billion is lost in revenue alongside 14,600 jobs.
By educating citizens around Sacramento about efficient water usage, we can help save water for the environment and economy. The focus should be educating people about rebates to encourage switching to water efficient appliances. In addition, basic education regarding daily water usage should be shared to further reduce waste.
