The Honorable Alex Padilla
U.S. Senate
Washington D.C., 20510

Dear Senator Padilla:

On behalf of the City of Sacramento (City), I write to express our support for the Water Efficiency, Conservation, and Sustainability Act of 2022 (S 4279). As a community committed to the implementation of water conservation solutions with a focus on innovation, we believe your legislation provides an important approach to ensure a robust federal partnership to deploy solutions to help reduce adverse impacts from drought and help to advance a reliable and safe water supply.

The City is dedicated to protecting public health and the environment, while ensuring efficient water supply treatment services. The City, like all of the west, has challenges from the unrelenting drought and the competing needs of municipal and the environment as the drought exacerbates the demands placed upon our water resources.

We strongly support the Water Efficiency, Conservation, and Sustainability Act of 2022’s Water Efficiency and Conservation Grants Program that would allow water utilities to carry out water efficiency programs that assist in the purchase, installation or use of efficient fixtures, appliances, and landscaping. The priority to address the needs of low-income communities by requiring at least 40% of the grants program’s funding go towards low-income households and disadvantaged communities is a sound response to a real need.

Thank you for your continued efforts to address the needs of water sector. If the City can be a resource for you as the bill is considered, please do not hesitate to contact Anne Sanger, Department of Utilities Governmental Affairs Manager, at [email protected] or
916-808-1635.

Sincerely,

Jay Schenirer
Chair, Law and Legislation Committee
