Dear City Council:

Please oppose this resolution. Measure A has not been voted on yet. There has been no open public engagement on this matter. There may well be better climate oriented use of these funds, like a jump-start to the CAAP . Please oppose this resolution at this time. Thank you for your service. Why would the City commit to spending money from a ballot measure that has not yet gone to voters? The Mobility Center might bring a few more jobs, but are they the ones we need? Electric cars will not improve our communities. An article in the LA Times yesterday put it right: "Think more about what people in neighborhoods need than what people driving through these neighborhoods want". Y es, we want to reach our climate goals, and the funding that you hope to set aside for the Mobility Center could do so much more good in other areas in need of climate action. This is council looking at bright and shiny things, not actually getting to the fundamental actions needed to turn around our climate issues.

The City should not be committing to spend money from a ballot measure that has not yet gone to voters. Why is one project receiving so much funding when the need for money for other projects that actually improve communities is so apparent? Electric cars will not improve our communities. An article in the LA Times yesterday summed this up perfectly "Think more about what people in neighborhoods need than what people driving through these neighborhoods want". Let's not do this here.

There are likely MANY ways to support the Mobility Center short of tax dollars. How about situating innovative start-ups in our empty strip malls? How about demonstration projects in our EJ neighborhoods? How about training programs so our youth are ready to enter this burgeoning industry? Let's establish factories here, making jobs as well as products of the future. Why not use Federal IRA dollars to support a variety of innovative start-ups -- not just one single organization in one single sector? I sincerely applaud public-private partnerships, but we can be much more creative about how we give 'support'. Demonstration projects and policy initiatives ARE the job of governments - so let's do that! Don't just dole out taxpayer dollars desperately needed for local capital projects.
