Recommendation: 1) Conduct interviews of applicants to the Civil Service Board for Seat E: a member appointed in the manner provided by the Charter of the City of Sacramento for the appointment of members of City boards, commissions, and agencies; 2) discuss candidates eligibility; and 3) recommend appointment to Mayor and Council unless additional discussion in a subsequent meeting is needed.

Issue Detail: Prior to forwarding nominations to the Mayor for appointment, the Personnel and Public Employees Committee conducts interviews of applicants for open board and commission positions.
Policy Considerations: Members are appointed in the manner provided by the Charter of the City of Sacramento for the appointment of members of City boards, commissions, and agencies.

Rationale for Recommendation: When a position on a City board or commission becomes available through term expiration or resignation, the Office of the City Clerk conducts a recruitment for interested parties. When the application period has closed, the Personnel and Public Employees Committee conducts interviews of the applicants and forwards nominations to the Mayor for appointment. The appointment is then confirmed by the whole council.

Being born and raised in South Sacramento has provided me with 2 important attributes: having a tremendous amount of pride in the City of Sacramento and having a unique
perspective that will benefit the diversity efforts and goals this city has proposed. It is my goal to be the voice of people from the historically underserved communities.

My current position as a legislative staffer requires that I remain as objective as possible and consider both sides of the issue so that and informed decision can be made. I have gained the skills to remove my own personal beliefs and work with the facts in hand and present evidence based on facts.
Now, if an issue requires that I present my own beliefs and understanding of things, then I am more than happy to
provide my input. I have also held supervisory roles where I have addressed complaints and disagreements. My approach has always been to look for a win-win situation. I understand that this requires compromise, but in my experience the goals and outcome of the situation are always the same - make the situation better for all parties.

My educational training and background is in Psychology and in Political Science. I have received a Bachelorette degree in both of those areas, but its not necessarily the knowledge that I learned that will help me be successful in this role. analytical skills, my written and verbal skills, and my ability to work on a collaborative group to reach a common goal.

Over the years I've held different leadership roles. In college I was an ambassador for the College of Social Sciences where I was the representative of the Psychology students. This took a great deal of collaboration with my peers and colleagues, but the driving factor to make this a success was the common goal we all had.

I would like to be considered for this board as I have a great interest in civil service. My educational background is in Public Administration and I consider public/civil service one of the highest callings in our democracy. I believe all civil servants should perform their duties ethically, legally and morally.

While I have no HR or managerial experience, I have years of experience as an employee under the supervision of others in government, nonprofit and the public sector. In my experience I have known many situations pertaining to the things this board reviews and makes decisions on. I chose to study Public Administration because of my experiences. creation and job duties assigned based on job class, among other things pertaining to personnel matters.
