Recommendation: 1) Conduct interviews of applicants to the Measure U Community Advisory Committee for Seats J and N: members appointed in the manner provided by the Charter of the City of Sacramento for the appointment of members of City boards, commissions, and agencies; 2) discuss candidates eligibility; and 3) recommend appointment to Mayor and Council unless additional discussion in a subsequent meeting is needed.

Issue Detail: Prior to forwarding nominations to the Mayor for appointment, the Personnel and Public Employees Committee conducts interviews of applicants for open board and commission positions.
Policy Considerations: Members are appointed in the manner provided by the Charter of the City of Sacramento for the appointment of members of City boards, commissions, and agencies.

Rationale for Recommendation: When a position on a City board or commission becomes available through term expiration or resignation, the Office of the City Clerk conducts a recruitment for interested parties. When the application period has closed, the Personnel and Public Employees Committee conducts interviews of the applicants and forwards nominations to the Mayor for appointment. The appointment is then confirmed by the whole council.

I have served on community boards and commissions several times over the past 13 years. From school district issues, general community engagement, philanthropy, and parks and recreation, I have driven meaningful outcomes. There is always room in public service for someone who can bring passion to the important issues, but still maintain decorum and congeniality that unifies committees. In the case of the Measure U Advisory Committee, I am applying because my
perspective and work can bring greater acknowledgement to this committee. Faith in institutions is at an all-time-low.
Whether this is nationally based and trickles elsewhere, local governments and public entities everywhere still experience the setback. Therefore, our public servants have even under more pressure to ensure that they show the net benefit and their pure intentions in carrying out policy and use of the public tax dollars. I am extremely passionate about making sure our city government is responsive to the people, and that we are carrying out the policy that was agreed to by elected officials on behalf of constituents.
