Issue Detail: Prior to forwarding nominations to the Mayor for appointment, the Personnel and Public Employees Committee conducts interviews of applicants for open board and commission positions.
Policy Considerations: Members are appointed in the manner provided by the Charter of the City of Sacramento for the appointment of members of City boards, commissions, and agencies.

Rationale for Recommendation: When a position on a City board or commission becomes available through term expiration or resignation, the Office of the City Clerk conducts a recruitment for interested parties. When the application period has closed, the Personnel and Public Employees Committee conducts interviews of the applicants and forwards nominations to the Mayor for appointment. The appointment is then confirmed by the whole council.

There are several reasons why I am interested in serving on the Natomas Basin Conservancy Board of Directors.
First, the Conservancy is an essential, but often overlooked, element in regional economic success by ensuring regional biological success. I’ve served on the boards of several non- profit public benefit corporations that have focused on
environmental goals as well as economic goals. I’ve been on the board of the Sacramento Tree Foundation for the last 15 years, including serving as Board President and continuing to serve as Board Treasurer and have enjoyed providing strategic leadership to an impactful environmental nonprofit. I’ve also been on the Boards of several economic/business focused nonprofits. And I’d like to contribute to the continuing successful leadership of the Conservancy, which serves both goals.
Second, I understand and appreciate the need for good,
qualified board members due to my experience with multiple boards and public agencies. Creating and maintaining a
successful nonprofit requires the right elements – a good mix of board members to provide strategic policy and appropriate oversight, the right chief executive to provide leadership and accountability, thoughtful governance policies and transparent discussions. I’ve participated in multiple board efforts to address key internal issues or external challenges and know how best to be a productive part of board leadership for nonprofit success.
Finally, I’m a native Sacramentan and have focused my entire life on professional and personal endeavors that continue to make our region better. I’m very attracted to the Natomas Basin Conservancy’s accomplishments and future efforts,
which have perpetual benefit our region.
