Recommendation: 1) Conduct interviews of applicants to Planning and Design Commission for Seat L: a member appointed in the manner provided by the Charter of the City of Sacramento for the appointment of members of City boards, commissions, and agencies; 2) discuss candidates eligibility; and 3) recommend appointment to Mayor and Council unless additional discussion in a subsequent meeting is needed.

Issue Detail: Prior to forwarding nominations to the Mayor for appointment, the Personnel and Public Employees Committee conducts interviews of applicants for open board and commission positions.
Policy Considerations: Members are appointed in the manner provided by the Charter of the City of Sacramento for the appointment of members of City boards, commissions, and agencies.
Economic Impacts: None.

Rationale for Recommendation: When a position on a City board or commission becomes available through term expiration or resignation, the Office of the City Clerk conducts a recruitment for interested parties. When the application period has closed, the Personnel and Public Employees Committee conducts interviews of the applicants and forwards nominations to the Mayor for appointment. The appointment is then confirmed by the whole council.

I would like to serve my city with the planning for the future we all can be a part of. I would like provide a voice
representing the older generation in terms of planning and development.

I currently work with architects, engineers, and consultants on code compliance for school buildings, community college buildings and essential facilities. I review, mark up and approve construction plans, specifications and provide input on proposed code related changes. I work in the Project Services Section, where I am involved in pre-application meetings with clients. In the pre-application meeting the design professionals, present their planning and strategies in submitting projects, costs, time frames and compliance with various code requirements. I have approximately 12 years of experience in working with the general public and design professionals as a building official.
Prior to state service, I have 14 years of design experience in the private sector. I have worked on a number of significant projects where aesthetics was a major factor over
functionality; the Disneyland hotel, Panattoni Office building, and the Lavarock building.

I am a graduate of the City of Sacramento Planning Academy. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and the interaction between the instructors and students. I was quite a commitment to attend and finish but worth it.
I am also an evaluator with CalOES, Safety Assessment
Program (SAP). As an evaluator I visit areas after a disaster and perform safety assessments. My most recent deployment was after 2015 Napa Earthquake. My team went to private homes, apartment buildings, office buildings and various other structures to assess the safety of the structures.

As an Architect and Sacramentan for over 20 years, I’ve actively participated in the transformation and growth of our city. My time so far in Sacramento has been an actualization my values and ideals which originated during my youth,
especially during my time in architecture and planning school. ----When I moved to Sacramento from the Midwest, I was able to promptly align my home and work life with my
sustainability values and background. This was an amazing opportunity that helped me realize the potential of
Sacramento immediately. I moved into a co-housing
community, became a year-round bicycle commuter, and dove right into creating local, affordable housing through my work with Mogavero Architects.
----As an architect, I’ve worked with over a dozen planning and development agencies across the state. I’ve had the
opportunity to work with various zoning codes and many
wonderful people in leadership roles at California cities. ----I understand building technology, planning principles and the social, civic, and financial pieces that work together to produce a successful project.
----Over these last 20 years, I have spent time in various realms of advocacy in Sacramento including responsible infill development, active transportation, affordable housing, urban agriculture, nature connection and green building in a carbon- constrained future.
