Review of Applicants for the Utilities Rate Advisory Commission File ID: 2024-00308

Recommendation: 1) Conduct interviews of applicants to Utilities Rate Advisory Commission for Seats C and F: a member appointed in the manner provided by the Charter of the City of Sacramento for the appointment of members of City boards, commissions, and agencies; 2) discuss candidates eligibility; and 3) recommend appointment to Mayor and Council unless additional discussion in a subsequent meeting is needed.

Issue Detail: Prior to forwarding nominations to the Mayor for appointment, the Personnel and Public Employees Committee conducts interviews of applicants for open board and commission positions.
Policy Considerations: Members are appointed in the manner provided by the Charter of the City of Sacramento for the appointment of members of City boards, commissions, and agencies.
Economic Impacts: None.

Rationale for Recommendation: When a position on a City board or commission becomes available through term expiration or resignation, the Office of the City Clerk conducts a recruitment for interested parties. When the application period has closed, the Personnel and Public Employees Committee conducts interviews of the applicants and forwards nominations to the Mayor for appointment. The appointment is then confirmed by the whole council.

District 2 needs representation on this Commission. As a District we are severely underrepresented across all City Boards and Commissions. This Commission, though not well known, has a direct impact on people’s pocketbooks. At a time when inflation is being so deeply felt, residents need to trust when a rate increase is requested that dedicated and
thorough commissioners have made the very best
recommendation they can. I believe I would be such a
commissioner. I have followed this commission for years and would be ready to take the seat tomorrow.

I manage one of the largest multifamily and commercial
property vendors in the Sacramento region. In this capacity I am responsible for budgets, employees, equipment,

This allows me insight into the daily operations of both DOU and RSW. In both my job and on the volunteer boards that I serve on I bring my skills in financial analysis and long-term strategic development.
