Description/Analysis
Issue Detail: California Health and Safety Code section 13146.3 requires every building used as a public or private school within the City of Sacramento’s city limits to have a compliance inspection at least once yearly. Health and Safety Code section 13146.2 requires the Sacramento Fire Department (SFD) to inspect specific structures annually, including hotels, motels, lodging houses, and apartment houses, for compliance with the building standards of the California Fire Code and other regulations adopted by the State Fire Marshal. Senate Bill 1205 (2018) (SB 1025) requires the SFD to report the mandated annual inspections to the Council as the “administering authority” within the meaning of Health and Safety Code section 13146.4. The Council must acknowledge receipt of the report by resolution.
SFD’s Prevention Division has completed approximately 94.02 percent of initial inspections, pursuant to sections 13146.2 and 13146.3 of the Health and Safety Code. Any violation(s) of the Sacramento City Code found during inspections have either been corrected or are in the process of correction. Inspections and re-inspections will continue until all code violations are corrected.
