The funding shortfall is due to rising costs across all Fire vehicle builds. The department has identified up to $450,000 of the Intergovernmental Transfer commitment of General Fund balance (Fund 1001) to right size the Fire Apparatus CIP.

project in accordance with Section 15378(b)(2) of the California Environmental Quality Act guidelines.
Sustainability: Not applicable.
Commission/Committee Action: None.
Rationale for Recommendation: The Fire Department is recommending, the authorization to increase the Fire Department’s budget FY 2023/24 for the Fire Apparatus Program (F12000300) by $450,000 to assist in the purchasing and needed funding of Fire Apparatus in future years. This funding will assist the Fire and City Fleet in making the necessary purchases promptly with sufficient funds. Currently, the Fire Apparatus Program CIP (F12000300) has a funding shortfall, and the increase to the CIP (F12000300) budget will help reduce the current funding shortfall.
Financial Considerations: Funding for the Fire Apparatus Program (F12000300) CIP (Fund 1001) is essential for future Fire Department fleet purchases.
Therefore staff is recommending an increase to the budget of Fire Apparatus Program CIP (F12000300) by $450,000 and an appropriation in the amount of $450,000 from the Intergovernmental Transfer (IGT) commitment of the General Fund balance to the Fire Apparatus Program CIP (F12000300) to help bridge the funding shortage to make necessary purchases in future fiscal years related to Fire Apparatus vehicle replacements.
