The goal of this project is to expand water infrastructure in the project area to increase capacity sufficient to serve future multi-family residential units and increase fire safety. Project Description: The proposed GMG Project would expand water infrastructure in a portion of the “Central City Corridors” Green Zone, generally comprised of 20thStreet to 23rdStreet from Improv Alley to Kayak Alley, to increasing capacity sufficient to serve thousands of multi-family residential units and improve fire safety. The existing 6” water infrastructure is inadequate to accommodate meaningful residential densification. As such, the proposed corridor-wide project would be a catalyst for considerable residential infill development in an area currently undersupplied in housing choice and opportunity. The project proposes to construct approximately 450 linear feet of 8-inch diameter water main between Jazz Alley and Improv Alley on 20th Street, 850 linear feet of 8-inch diameter water main between Kayak Alley and Improv Alley on 21st Street, and 850 linear feet of 8-inch diameter water main between Kayak Alley and Improv Alley on 22ndStreet. DOU reserves the right to revise the proposed water main improvements based system analysis and demands. Implementation: Summarize plans for adoption or implementation or next steps. If the project is one component of a larger effort, such as a study that will support fee reductions, please specify how this project fits into the larger housing effort. 15 Contract No.: 230058Funding Source: State REAP 2 Project Billing Code: SAC229 The anticipated timing of known residential projects will likely mitigate the risk of funding shortfall related to the water infrastructure expansion project because if there is any funding gap, the delta will be borne by any immediately benefitting project applicant(s). The City understands, however, that it is infeasible for any one infill residential project to pay for the entirety of the water infrastructure expansion and that the feasibility of infill residential development may continue to be a challenge even with the success of this water infrastructure project. 16 Contract No.: 230058 Funding Source: State REAP 2 Project Billing Code: SAC229
