Issue Detail: In November 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36: The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act. Proposition 36 took effect on December 18, 2024.
As requested by Mayor Kevin McCarty, this oral presentation discusses the implementation of the new law and how regional law enforcement agencies are collaborating with each other and with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
Policy Considerations: The information presented is consistent with City Council’s commitment to keeping communities safe and informed. It is also consistent with City Council’s goal of transparency in public safety.
