Definition
Sexual Assault: Sexual actions inflicted on another
person with physical and/or forceful actions.
Sexual Harassment: Constantly being drowned in
sexual comments by another (in person and social
media) and repeated non -physical gestures.
The Issue
● In 2019 only 13% sexual assault cases investigated
and resulted in arrest for the assaulter.
● Sacramento alone has over 1,100 reported rape
cases between 2019 and 2023.
● Many victims do not know where to begin after
being assaulted and are not aware about available
resources.
What's Megan's
Law?
Megan's Law is a federal law
enacted to protect the public from
convicted sex offenders .
Statistics
● 20.8% say that the assault happened in a public
setting.
● 37.7% say their schools give education about
SA/SH.
● 72.5% said they didn’t report their SA/SH cases.
● Less than half of the youth we surveyed know
how to report SA/SH.
All of this information was gathered by our survey we
sent out to youth in all districts of Sacramento.
Causes
● Social norms that condone violence.
● Inappropriate attempts to handle emotions.
● Sexist beliefs of an individual.
● Projecting trauma and using violence to handle
it.
● WEAVE Inc. - Sacramento County rape crisis
center & sexual assault response team
● My Sister's house - multilingual helpline for
survivors ( 916 - 920 2952)
● For immediate help call 911
● Megans Law: https://oag.ca.gov/sex -offender-
reg/megans-law
Existing Resources
Proposal: Project Phoenix

Data
Problem
• Isolation levels have increased since the pandemic
• In Sacramento, about 1 in 5 kids are dealing with a mental health disorder
• ~71,800 teens feel isolated, live in unstable homes, and have unhealthy habits
• Without enough support or connection, these problems
can worsen and cause teens to fall back in life
Create a FREE youth-led peer support group that
incorporates the 4 core values of C.A.R.E by:
• gaining funding through Measure L to create
positive youth development and violence
prevention
• using Measure U to rent out long-term spaces for
the youth peer support group
Solution
The Benefits
• Socialize with the ones who truly
understand them
• Reduce risk in teens of gaining mental
illnesses
• Teens would not participate in risky
behavior

What is water pollution?
Water Pollution is when harmful
substances like chemicals, waste, or
dirt gets into rivers and or creeks.
The Problem
In Sacramento, pollution from creeks
flows into the Sacramento River,
mainly from PFAS, bacteria, and
heavy metals.
American River
A study done by Central Valley Water Board shows:
Out of 12 monitoring stations on the lower American River,10 had at least one period where they exceeded the objective amount of E. coli bacteria, 5 stations exceeded objective more than half the time. (E coli objective is 6 week rolling mean of 100 MPN per 100 mL
Sacramento River
Sacramento River has been denoted as impaired by pollutants including but not limited to copper, mercury, and over 15 pesticides leading to destruction of habitats.
As well as the killing of animals and their ecosystems destroying the visual aspect of the River as well as damaging the health of the environment around it as well.
Through a collaborative study it shows that E. coli bacteria has frequently exceeded bacteria water quality objectives
(From the Community)
- "Sad and distraught. Over the last 10-15 years it has gotten so bad.
Especially by the Sac and American rivers. Trash everywhere from people who use the parks and river access."
- "It is discouraging. I want to feel proud of my community and take pride in where I live but seeing water areas not maintained has made these areas uncomfortable to be around."
- "Frustrated. The waterways are public spaces and should be space for all families to enjoy but the trash and pollution make many unusable."

Our Proposals
Our proposal is for the City of Sacramento to
partner with existing environmental
organizations to raise awareness about water
pollution and encourage active public
involvement.
We would like the city to organize more frequent
river clean -up events with city support to
increase participation and visibility.

"My father had decided to drink and drive before I was born. He was sent to jail and I was never able to see him until I was 12 years old. Having an absent father affected me a lot and it all stemmed from him getting into drunk driving. I still don't see him to this day."
"Someone I know was hit by a drunk driver, the two passengers with him were killed , he was severely injured and the drunk driver was severely injured as well."
"Teen drunk driving killed my uncle's best
friend who he'd known since high school, and
forced my uncle into a deep depression."

Youth
Empowerment
and Independence
(Y.I.E)
Our Mission
At Youth Independence
and Empowerment, we
strive to empower the
youth by offering
connection, information,
and resources so younger
generations can thrive
independently.
3 Issue:
● Youth are in need of
access to basic
necessities and
community programs.
● Most youth are
unaware of existing
resources.
● More than half of
youth do not have an
adult that can provide
existing resources.
3 Stats:
CONFIDENCE–Life AFTER High School:
We had our peers take a survey and we
collected the responses:
ACCESS TO SUPPLIES FOR INDEPENDENCE
EMPLOYMENT:
54% are unemployed
52% would like to be employed
43% of which have no idea where
to find employment
Note: We had a total of 111 responses – ages
ranging from 15 -18+
Takeaway: More than half of local
youth feel unsure about life after
High School and are unsure where to
find the tools to help them gain the
confidence they need.
Awareness:
STRUGGLE WITH ACCESS:
44.5% know someone who has
struggled with access to proper meals
or have struggled with access to
proper meals themselves
31.5% know someone who has
struggled with access to
clothing/hygiene products or have
struggled with access to these
resources themselves
KNOWLEDGE ABOUT AVAILABLE
SERVICES:
71% were unaware of a program
offering food and clothing aid
57% were unaware of free summer
meals at the Libraries
87% were unaware of SETA
(Sacramento Employment and
Training agency)
52% were unaware of how to get a
student RT pass
Takeaway: Resources that can help
people struggling with access to the
items listed above are available.
However, they aren't marketed
properly and finding out about them
can be hard.
● Creating a website and
instagram
● A landing page of
information on teen
resources
● Resources for getting
● Transportation
● Clothing/hygiene
● Employment support
Our Solution:
Accessible
Transportation
● Most kids rely on their parents to
drive them everywhere!
● We will provide info on how to
use the bus tracker app and how
to navigate it so more students
can take public transportation.
● Bonus: This will help reduce CO2
emissions,and provide better
transportation opportunities to
our community.
Clothing, Hygiene
and Meals
● Free meals are offered
at establishments
across Sac for those
under 18.
● Clothing drives and free
hygiene items are
provided through many
programs that young
people are unaware of.
Employment
Support
● There are many
resources and
opportunities for
youth:
○ Prime Time Teen,
SETA, and S@CH.
● These resources
prepare youth for
the future
Flyers:
Billboard:
Website
● This is an example website
● We can use a website as a
united hub of resources
● On our flyers, there would be
a QR code to it

15 Know Your Planet, Protect Your Future
By the Golden Grizzlies
• Climate change is one of the most pressing issues facing our world today.
• In Sacramento, 43% of homes are at significant risk of wildfire, and 44% are at risk of flooding.
• Youth deserve to understand what is happening to their planet and be given the tools to help protect their future.
• Environmental education increases awareness, knowledge and promotes critical thinking and problem solving skills.
The Golden Grizzlies would like to ask the
Sacramento City Council for their
support as we share youth-focused
educational materials about climate
change and climate action.
100% of teachers surveyed
expressed agreement that
students would benefit from
engaging climate activities.
Over 92% of the teachers
reported that their students
showed interest in helping the
planet.
Nearly 80% of the students
expressed interest in
educating younger
generation on climate
related topics.
Less than 12% of the students
reported learning about
climate topics in elementary
school.
On a scale of 1 to 5, over 70%
of students rated themselves
a 3 or lower on how educated
they feel about climate
action.
