Boutonnet Farms Backus Ranch 695 Boronda Road/North Davis unsafe traffic design/condition Good day Gentlemen,
I am writing to you out of concern for safety and continued property damage to our Boutonnet Farms Backus Ranch property behind the BEVMO/Home Depot center on North Davis road. Davis road makes a hard 90 degree turn right behind this shopping center with little indicators or traffic control to keep vehicles moving at a high rate of speed from losing control and shooting off of the bank and onto the ranch. The rail guard which was previously in place has been hit so many times it is no longer functional and the curb in front of it has started to come off in pieces. In the past week, we have had 2 vehicles on separate occasions come over the bank and crash onto the field where we grow food and often have people working. Every year there are between 3-5 instances of this same thing happening and thus far it has only resulted in property damage but could eventually get someone seriously injured.
I cannot put up any kind of hard barriers there to prevent wayward drivers from crashing into the ranch for fear of litigation consequences if someone was to be seriously injured. I have resorted to putting up reflectors which may catch driver's attention during the day but at night people cannot see them. I know many of the folks who worked in the city public works and traffic when that road was put in and many were against the design, as it creates an unsafe driving condition. Now that there is no curb or guard rail to keep drivers from coming off the road the situation is even more hazardous and creates a hazard for not only the people working on the ranch but the crop we grow there which could be potentially contaminated with glass and other hazardous materials.
I have been in contact with the City Police and a few folks in Public Works and have continually gotten the run around so 1 am reaching out to the folks directly in charge in hopes that we can get something done here to protect the health a safety of our workers and general public. I am not a traffic engineer so I cannot speak to what the best solution is here but the current situation is unsafe and could likely result in litigation if someone is to be injured. Bare minimum the curb needs to be replace and a more substantial guard rail and traffic indicators should be put in place to try and prevent this from continually happening.
I am attaching some pictures and would welcome a visit to the site to look at it with any of you that could help improve the situation.
Thank you very much for taking the time to address my concerns and look forward to a hopefully speedy resolution to the issue.
