RESOLUTION NO. (N.C.S.)
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DIRECT PURCHASE OF
THE FARO LASER SCANNER AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT
WHEREAS, the Salinas Police Department Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Unit needs to replace the current 3D laser scanner used for documenting crime scenes; and WHEREAS, the Salinas Police Department wishes to replace this equipment with another FARO Laser Scanner and has received a quote from FARO Technologies for the Laser Scanner and associated equipment, as well as a VR Ready Notebook; and WHEREAS, the department is requesting an additional 10% contingency, given current market conditions which have led to unexpected price increases and instances of vendors not honoring quoted prices; and WHEREAS, there are no local vendors available and the department will be purchasing the laser scanner and associated equipment directly from the manufacturer, FARO Technologies, and purchasing the computer from either FARO Technologies or an alternate vendor if a better cost can be achieved; and WHEREAS, the City Council can approve this purchase pursuant to Salinas Municipal Code Section 12-27 (exception to low-bid based competition) in contracting for equipment, materials, supplies and services and pursuant to Salinas Municipal Code 12-28 (local purchasing preference).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Salinas City Council authorizes the direct purchase of the FARO Laser Scanner and associated equipment from FARO Technologies, and the purchase of a computer capable working with this equipment from FARO Technologies or any alternate equipment vendor, for total costs not to exceed $70,004.90.
