A RESOLUTION RENAMING MURPHY STREET TO
JD ALVARADO CIRCLE
WHEREAS, Jorge David Alvarado Jr. was born in San Francisco California where he attended Voice of Pentecost Academy High School and graduated a year early due to academic achievement; and WHEREAS, Jorge David (JD) Alvarado enlisted into the US Army as an infantryman and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell Kentucky; and WHEREAS, in 2011, JD was deployed with the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment to Afghanistan and earned the prestigious Combat Infantryman Badge for his gallantry during combat operations; and WHEREAS, in 2016 JD joined the Colma Police Department where he served honorably for four and half years; and WHEREAS, in August 2020, Officer JD Alvarado joined the Salinas Police Department where he received his Drug Recognition Expert certification and was posthumously assigned to the SWAT team; and WHEREAS, on February 25, 2022, Officer JD Alvarado was shot and killed in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, Officer Alvarado’s heroic action during the confrontation led to the arrest of his assailant; and WHEREAS, an ad hoc Street Naming Committee met on October 27, 2022 and unanimously approved and recommends renaming Murphy Street to JD Alvarado Circle; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Salinas City Council hereby renames Murphy Street to JD Alvarado Circle in honor and respect for our fallen officer.
