RESOLUTION NO. (N.C.S.)
A RESOLUTION UTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH ONE WORKPLACE FOR PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF WORKSPACE IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE PERMIT SERVICES DIVISION AT 65 W. ALISAL STREET WHEREAS, over the past two years, the Permit Center has seen a significant increase in building permits, requiring additional staffing; and WHEREAS, in January 2023, the Community Development Department’s Permit Services Division was finally able to fill all three full-time building inspector positions; and WHEREAS, the Permit Services Division now has four full-time building inspectors and part-time consultants who all work out of the same room, which is cramped with outdated workstations and bulky furniture that is difficult to move to create meeting space when needed; and WHEREAS, over the last couple of years, the Community Development Department (CDD) has worked with Peninsula Business Interiors (PBI), now One Workplace, to help design, purchase, and install workplace improvements to accommodate a growing staff and provide safer spaces for employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and WHEREAS, CDD and One Workplace worked together to design a functional room with 6 new worksurfaces, bookcases, and moveable furniture to allow the space to also serve as a small meeting room; and WHEREAS, One Workplace utilized Sorcewell, a cooperative purchasing platform that offers cooperative contracts to participating public agencies, to provide a quote for the modifications to the workspace; and WHEREAS, Sourcewell follows the competitive contracting law process to solicit, evaluate, and award cooperative purchasing contracts for goods and services and by using Sourcewell, the City of Salinas has procured a competitive quote consistent with procurement policies; and WHEREAS, the quote for the purchase and installation of workspace improvements is $35,396.04, but it is recommended that a 10% contingency is added to the agreement for an amount not to exceed amount of $38,935 to provide some flexibility for unforeseen cost escalations; and WHEREAS, funding for this Agreement will come from the existing Permit Services Division FY 22/23 Budget by shifting funding from unspent line items; and WHEREAS, the proposed workspace improvements will align with the City Council’s strategic plan initiative of Effective and Culturally Responsive Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that pursuant to Salinas Municipal Code section 12-27, the Salinas City Council authorizes and directs the City Manager to execute an Agreement with One Workplace, in an amount not to exceed $38,935 for the purchase and installation of workspace improvements to the inspector room located at 65 W.
