I would like to say I object to :

The proposal to convert the Legacy Furniture building on South Main Street to a cannabis dispensary.

This is a welcome corridor to Salinas and a Cannabis dispensary, as a huge landmark, is not the way we need to greet people to Salinas. Also the shopping center across the way and the restaurants and doctors office close by are Family friendly and the dispensary should not be near them. The current location of the east of Eden dispensary is in a more industrial and less family friendly are makes more sense.

Thank you

Hello!
I'm writing in regards to the proposed cannabis dispensary on S Main. I do NOT agree with this addition to our town. Not only is it directly across the street from a pharmacy, it's just down the street from a high schoo!. I do not think this is a good idea. I also don't feel it's good because we already have dispensaries nearby, like East of Eden. This town does NOT need anymore dispensaries. I think you should use the building for something that is positive and productive.

Thank you!

Hello. My name is Marlisa Blueford. I live in South Salinas and am against having a Cannabis dispensery built in the old Legacy Furniture store. All money is not good money. The city should look into other businesses that more people could benefit from, especially the youth, such as an indoor skating rink.

Thank you for your consideration of this matter.

Good Morning
I am writing this email for my concerns with the dispensary in South Salinas. I'm against the location here in South Salinas as the area that is being considered is located near restaurants, grocery stores, barbershops, and churches that host multiple families at time. Our families already have to hear and witness so much other crime throughout the city! The concerns are the negativity that this may bring to my community. Just take a look into any online publication dispensary are often targeted by criminals, not to mention the new rate DUI/DWI that would take place because an irresponsible individual wanted to smoke before he/she arrive at the their next destination! Thank you for your time

CAUTION: This message originated outside of the City of Salinas email system. Do not click on links or open attachments unless you are sure the content is safe.

I am eager to voice my enthusiasm for Cannacruz's proposed relocation to Legacy Furniture from Abbott Street! The decision to move to a new location reflects Cannacruz's commitment to providing its patrons with an enhanced experience. As someone who frequents Cannacruz, I can attest to the consistently high standards of professionalism and service upheld by the establishment. The cleanliness of the premises and the warmth exhibited by the staff have always left a positive impression on me.

The potential for a larger venue holds the promise of accommodating more customers and generating increased revenue for our city.

Given Cannacruz's significant contribution of over 1.7 million in tax revenues last year, it is evident that the business has solidified its place in our community. As a loyal customer, I am fully supportive of Cannacruz's ambition to transition into the new building. The prospect of an expanded space, coupled with the exceptional service already synonymous with the brand, is truly exciting.

I am confident that the proposed move will not only benefit Cannacruz but also enrich the local community. Thank you for considering my perspective on this matter.

Hello, we do not need that on S Main street. Our city has enough problems. This will increase traffic, there is minimal parking and there is already one down the street. Keep this stuff off of Main street. Better in industrial areas. People that want it will find it.

Dear city of salinas,
Putting up a marijuana store on Main Street is a terrible mistake. Marijuana, while no longer illegal, has not contributed to society in a productive way; there are greater measures of contribution to society than just money.

Placing such a store in such a high traffic spot will surely contribute to the further normalization of use, and that would be a detriment to our society. Our city should be working to empower more businesses to start by cutting so much of the red tape rather than upholding a substance and lifestyle which essentially stupefies a population.

Please consider an alternative to placing a dispensary at the old legacy furniture store.

Prayers for the best for all of you at the city.

Please do NOT allow Cannacruz to go into the old Legacy building on South Main. There has been so much work put in to revitalize South Main Street (bravo! Thank you!) and this would definitely be a step backwards. I have lived and worked in Salinas for 10 years and have 3 young children. I have been impressed with the family oriented community we are privileged to experience here. Seeing a huge cannabis dispensary upon entering our town is not who Salinas is and is not who I want our town to become. Thank you for your time.

Hama Salinas resident residing in District 5. I am a senior with multiple age-related heath issues. I use public transportation, which often limits my ability to reach many parts of town. As a cannabis user, it has been difficult for me to access most of the local dispensaries as most are off the MST bus route. I would strongly support the addition of a new, easily accessible dispensary in our city, and encourage our city council to approve it.

No! We do not need or want a Cannabis store in S. Salinas. Do not put us on a trajectory of a SF business model, please! We don't need a cannabis store on every corner, we don't need a liquor store on every corner. Why don't you concentrate on something we can utilize for the community or our children? Cannabis might be okay with some voters, not all. Please respect those of us who do not!

To whom it may concern in the City of Salinas:

I wrote earlier, but forgot to mention this: Visitors from Monterey approach Salinas from S. Main. "First Impression" of our City matters. We are not going to be viewed as this hip and trendy little town with Cannabis shops... Certainly not with the plethora of homeless and shopping carts, etc. To me, Main St. sets the tone of the city of Salinas. Is that what we want? Given the environment of homelessness, this will cultivate the impression of Junky or druggy town in my honest opinion. Some may disagree. But I think the writing is clearly on the wall... First impression matters! Planning matters and makes all the difference. Well thought out decisions that affect our city are what matters. This stretch of town especially matters as the first impression of the City of Salinas. This is not at all the look any city should want and it should be something leadership guards against. What is the plan for empty shops and storefronts? Is there a campaign to attract family friendly small business?

There are numerous schools in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. We have enough in Salinas... put something there like an afterschool program. Marijuana dispensaries attract people who use then Drive (just go by the one on the railroad tracks). It is illegal and unsafe, but people do it anyway. I live within walking distance and do not want it.

Also, marijuana is a crutch people use. If you want people to be productive citizens, start with the kids and put something useful there. Move the YMCA there and put in a bigger pool.

City Council members, Planning Commision,
Please do not approve this business.

This area in the city is already becoming more unstable. A week ago! witnessed a situation where a person was openly confronting customers entering and departing the Ace Hardware store in the Star Center (myself being one of them) and he fire set at the yoghurt store are a few examples.

Recent data showing the harm to public health is showing an alarming trend. I have relatives in Colorado that bemoan what is happening in their state. I have observed some of the same trends here. The rate of the act of driving under the influence, even when not arrested, is becoming more of a problem as driving skills and judgement continue to deteriorate.

Since there is already one dispensary at John and Work St. we don't need or want market saturation like Starbucks employs.

As a property owner in the vicinity I do not consider this to be a positive addition to our community.

Again, please do not approve this business application.

Respectfully,

As a resident of Salinas, I think this proposal is not good at all. The moral has gone down so much in this state, let alone the whole country. There are so many homeless people on the streets, alot due to drug addiction, alot of them have messed up their minds, our youth are on drugs like never before, driving high, car accidents and death. By putting another Marijuana clinic up your just asking for more problems. Because majority of people go there for recreation use not medical.

Hello,
I am writing to encourage you not to approve the proposed dispensary for the old Legacy Furniture building on South Main street. I feel like that is a spot that school buses, families and out of town visitors pass by on a regular basis and l am a firm believer in the "out of sight, out of mind" maxim. I believe that the cannabis dispensary in general is here to stay and there is not really anything that we can do about it but I don't think that we need to be putting them front and center on one of the main thoroughfares in and out of town. I believe that having a dispensary in a prominent location like this will do more harm than good for our city which is already struggling with a less than stellar reputation from gang violence (real or perceived). We should be doing all that we can to build up our reputation and in my mind that would not include having cannabis dispensaries front and center for all to see.

Thank you.

I'm a 72 year resident of Salinas and have lived in south Salinas for over 30 years. I use cannibas products for medical reasons and l am all for the move of Canacruz. This dispensary is well run and has very good security. I like the idea of having a dispensary in our business section. I am sure the high taxes that are collected at Canacruz help contribute to the city budget. Don't let these tax dollars go away!

re: Concerns regarding proposed "use" change for 1228 S. Main Street, Salinas Dear Mr. Wiles,
Please accept this letter of concern regarding a proposed use change for the property at 1228 S. Main Street, from a furniture and appliance store to the retail sales of cannabis. Please let this letter be made matter or record and included in any and all studies and/or reports pertaining to this matter.

Upon returning home from a trip yesterday, 1 received a notice in the mail of a public hearing that was held on 1/10/2023 that I was obviously unaware of and therefore unable to attend. Regardless, I do feel I have cause for concern regarding the proposed use change for 1228 S. Main St, from a furniture store to a commercial cannabis dispensary that was discussed at that hearing for the following reasons:

I am the owner of 1250 S. Main St., (the property adjacent to 1228 S. Main St.), currently home to Elli's Restaurant (my tenant). I was somewhat surprised that the neighbors and businesses immediately surrounding 1228 S. Main St. did not receive notice of this proposal at an earlier stage of this process ~ by either the city or Canna Cruz Inc., in an attempt to solicit input or concerns, however I can only hope there is still ample time to discuss and influence this matter as it progresses. I would also like to ask if perhaps future correspondence regarding this matter could be shared via a more dependable and transparent means (ie: email, certified mail, etc...) vs normal U.S. Mail?
Although I admittedly know little about the cannabis industry or the inherent problems that might align with such a business, I do share the concerns of both the residents and the other businesses near this building as this location is surrounded by a very residential and family orientated demographics. It is within walking distance of a high school and a very large church as well as being at the entrance to our city from the Monterey-Salinas Hwy 68 corridor. These factors all contribute to the success and patronage of Ellis Restaurant, a very family orientated and targeted establishment therefore we do, if nothing else, question if and how that atmosphere might be effected by the inclusion of a cannabis dispensary being located at such a prominent gateway to our city, surrounded by such family defined ingredients.

Another concern stems from a parking dilemma that Ellis continues to battle daily. Although the Elli's parking lot is in fact owned by me and clearly marked with signage depicting " For Elli's Customers Only", we have no means of controlling who parks in that lot, many of which are not in fact Elli's customers. Many park in that lot when patronizing the several other businesses surrounding the lot itself. Although 1228 does have a separate parking lot, the entrance to that lot is extremely difficult to locate and enter off S. Main Street.

Concerns regarding proposed "use" change for 1228 S. Main Street, Salinas continued: Page 2 of 2 We have actually witnessed on several occasions, furniture store customers parking in the Elli's parking lot, clearly thinking it was the entrance/parking for the furniture store, and crossing over the landscaping to frequent the furniture store. Although not ideal, these occurrences seemed minimal in our opinion, based on the traffic the furniture store actually created however we have little doubt that a cannabis dispensary will increase that traffic greatly and therefore increase the negative impact on the parking for Ellis.

Finally, as Ellis closes late in the evening during darkness, several of the Ellis employees have voiced a concern for their safety when leaving the restaurant with a cannabis business next door. Again having not not investigated such matters surrounding the cannabis business, we neither agree nor disagree with these concern however we would be remiss if we did not share such concerns for the safety of these individuals.

At this time, we would ask that you please contact us regarding our above concerns. I am hoping you can direct us to where we might be able to review the comments and concerns of others that have shown support or opposition to this project.

We would also ilke to discuss possible mitigations that might address our above parking concerns as currently, access to the 1228 S. Main St. property from our dedicated parking lot is obvious and unrestricted.

This access could perhaps be eliminated and/or restricted to address our concerns for both parking and security reasons.

I look forward to speaking with you regarding this matter.

Respectfully Submitted,
Charlie Sammut

re: Concerns regarding proposed "use" change for 1228 S. Main Street, Salinas Dear Mr. Wiles,
Please accept this second letter of concern regarding a proposed CUP change for the property at 1228 S. Main Street, from a furniture and appliance store to the retail sale of cannabis. Please let this letter be made matter or record and included in any and all studies and/or reports pertaining to this matter.

As a reminder, I am the owner of 1250 S. Main St., (the property adjacent to 1228 S. Main St.), currently home to Elli's Restaurant (my tenant). I first and foremost thank-you for your time today on our phone meeting. Per that discussion, I must still question the city's over-all plan for South Main Street when approving such a business at the main entrance to the city from the Monterey Cooridor within walking distance of family neighborhoods, a church, a highschool and more. Many businesses in Salinas, especially restaurants, struggle to solicit the patronage of the many tourists visiting the Monterey Peninsula. Salinas has battled an unfortunate image for many years that I feel tourists avoid when visiting however we all try to address that issue and better the image that so misrepresents our city. I fear a canabis dispensary at the immediate entrance to Salinas from Monterey could be detrimental to the image of our city that so many are attempting to change.

Per our conversation, should this project move forward regardless, I understand that fence is currently part of the use condition on the north side of the property, separating it from the properties on that side. I would ask that an additional fence on the south side, restricting access between the two parking areas of my property and 1228 S. Main Street, also be a condition to the approval of such a use. This will help aleviate the already difficult parking problems we currently deal with. A business like the dispensary is certain to amplify that problem greatly.

Finally, I would urge the city to make sure neighbors are being properly notified of this proposal and future meetings pertaining to it as those I've spoken to have heard nothing of it. Per your reccomendation, I will share your information with those individuals, in the event they wish to seek or provide further comment.

Respectfully,
Charlie Sammut

HI Thomas,
I included Dr. Garrett Criswell on this email. He owns a business adjacent to this property. The majority of his patients are children. I'm still trying to figure out who thought it was a good idea to put a weed dispensary next to businesses that cater to children. Dr. Criswell would like to know when and where the hearing will take place.

Thank you,
Matthew

I was just informed that 1228 S. Main Street may be a weed dispensary. Please let me know how I can fight this? This would be absolutely terrible for that location.

Salinas needs less drugs. Not more drugs.

E-mail is best. You can send it to my office if it must be mailed. I'm shocked that someone thought this was a good idea. Whoever is responsible for this decision needs to spend some serious time In China town. Let me know if they are interested. We do street outreach there as part of Set Free Monterey Bay.

Dr. Matthew Ronconi
Could you please set up the hearing for when I could attend. I'm booked 4 months out. Here is my schedule:

M: 7:30-6
T: 7:30-6
W: 8-5
Th: 8-4
Thank you,
Matthew

Hello, as a South Salinas resident, I wanted to voice my opinion on the proposed don't think this will help our community. This will definitely add to the traffic anc lowers the quality of the neighborhood. Why can't we put in a Trader Joe's or a ( the cannabis on the outskirts of town.

Thank you,

To: Steve McShane and the planning committee.

I'm begging you not to turn the old Legacy Furniture store into a cannabis dispensary. As a South Salinas resident I don't want this near my home. We have schools, churches, family dining and we don't condone this type of business. Please keep Main Street family oriented. Please.

Mrs. Corie Searcy
